Jermaine Dupri is continuing the year-long celebration of So So Def’s 30th anniversary. On Thursday (Oct. 26), the legendary producer was inducted into Atlanta’s Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame. The ceremony was made possible by the Black American Music Association, which was founded in 2017 as a membership trade organization focused on protecting the legacy of Black music.
After the accolade was unveiled, Dupri made sure to take a moment to thank Atlanta for cultivating a community that honors the culture. “I want to thank the city of Atlanta, College Park, Fulton County, and God today. It’s a perfect day for this to happen in the city of Atlanta,” he said in his speech.
Additional honorees included Lil Wayne, Dallas Austin, Queen Latifah, Magic Johnson, Marvin Sapp, and the late Mahalia Jackson.

“Man!! I just got inducted into the @blackwalkoffame and it feels amazing !! A lady on the red carpet asked me does this mean Atlanta is the new hollywood ? No! This is Atlanta this is Black music and Black entertainment #SoSoDef30,” the executive continued on X.
In VIBE’s most recent cover story, the “Welcome To Atlanta” creator reflected on how he balanced the immense success of So So Def at age 22. “I think it affected me good and bad. [It was] both sides because I didn’t have teaching or anything like that, but I never got in trouble or a situation where I needed a person to come bail me out. But yeah, I was pretty much just moving the needle myself. Nobody was showing or telling me what to do,” he stated. Check out the full interview here.
