Jimmy Kimmel Says Stars Eating at In-N-Out After Award Shows Is Now a Tradition

Jimmy Kimmel is clarifying there’s one iconic burger joint in Los Angeles that’s become a staple for celebrities on Oscars night.

Ahead of hosting the Academy Awards for the fourth time on March 10, he told People magazine, “The award show tradition is In-N-Out after the show.”

Kimmel explained the reason he believes it has become a tradition post-award shows is “because when people are in L.A., one of the things on their list is to go to In-N-Out — and there are a lot of people that are in L.A. just for the Oscars — so they wind up going like, ‘Okay.’”

He added, “Also, you get very hungry, so In-N-Out is definitely the award show tradition. Nothing against McDonald’s, but on award show night, it’s In-N-Out.”

Most recently, Paul Giamatti was spotted at an In-N-Out in Westwood after taking home the Golden Globe for best male actor in a motion picture, musical or comedy, for his role in The Holdovers. Following the awards ceremony in January, the actor was seen sitting at a table with his trophy, eating burgers, fries and soda alongside his girlfriend Clara Wong, and reps including UTA’s Billy Lazarus and manager Perri Kipperman.

After being founded in Baldwin Park in 1948, In-N-Out Burger became a beloved fast-food restaurant chain with locations primarily across California.

The post-awards show In-N-Out trend was also referenced in an Oscars promo last month ahead of the 2024 ceremony. At one point in the nearly five-minute video, Ryan Gosling (who’s nominated for best supporting actor for his role as Ken in Barbie) popped up in Weird Barbie’s car and said, “I got In-N-Out! It’s kind of this cool social media trend where you get it before the Oscars.”

Kimmel proceeded to correct the actor, adding, “Hey Ryan, actually, I think the trend is to have In-N-Out after the Oscars. Actually, after you’ve won the Oscar.”

“Well, that’s not going to happen,” Gosling said in response, throwing his drink and bag of food out of the car. “Good thing Greta’s got director in the bag.” But America Ferrera (who’s nominated for best supporting actress for her role in Barbie) quickly ran over to inform him that Barbie director Greta Gerwig was snubbed from the category, and he reacted with a scream.
