The Ana de Armas-led “John Wick” spin-off “Ballerina” has been delayed a full year according to THR.
The film, which was originally slated for June 7th 2024, is now set to open June 6th 2025. According to sources at Lionsgate, the delay will be due to the filming of additional action sequences for the movie.
Chad Stahelski, who helmed the main “John Wick” franchise, will be guiding those sequences alongside “Ballerina” director Len Wiseman.
Lionsgate will instead release its reboot of “The Crow” in cinemas on June 7th this year, that film is said to be essentially ready to go for release and so they won’t have to rush “Ballerina”.
de Armas stars in the film as an assassin trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma. Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, Keanu Reeves and the late Lance Reddick.
Filming on the project began in late 2022 in Prague and wrapped around a year ago. Producer Erica Lee has previously stated that the studio has tentative plans for a sequel.
“The Crow,” meanwhile, hails from director Rupert Sanders with a script by Zach Baylin and Will Schneider.
