Following the release of “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” last year, filmmaker Rian Johnson says he’s keen to get to work on the third film featuring Daniel Craig’s detective Benoit Blanc character.
The project would mark the second of two sequels that are part of a major deal between Johnson, Craig and Netflix. Johnson said last year that whilst he briefly considered something else, his commitments for the near future are to his two recent success stories.
Namely a third “Knives Out” which (as per usual) will be inspired by Agatha Christie’s novels and their prior film adaptations, and a second season of his acclaimed Peacock series “Poker Face” which is heavily inspired by “Columbo” and other murder mystery TV procedurals.
With the writer’s strike now over, Johnson confirms to The Wrap he’s already decided on the premise & setting for the new film and offered a brief update on how it is going:
“It’s coming along. I obviously couldn’t work during the strike, and now that it’s over, I’m diving in full force, and so it’s coming along. I’ve got the premise, I’ve got the setting, I’ve got what the movie is in my head. It’s just a matter of writing the damn thing.”
It’s expected the new film will switch out the ‘A Knives Out Mystery’ part of the title for ‘A Benoit Blanc Mystery’.
