Speaking in Wisconsin at the first rally of her 2024 presidential campaign, Vice President Kamala Harris laid out her vision for the country’s future, and it definitely includes paid family leave.
“This campaign is not just about us versus Donald Trump. This campaign is about who we fight for,” Kamala Harris said at the rally. Claiming to be “focused on the future,” she told Wisconsin, “We believe in a future…Where every person has affordable healthcare, affordable childcare, and paid family leave.”

The remarks at the Kamala Harris rally should come as no surprise. Both Glamour and Vice President Kamala Harris have been at the forefront of the fight for paid leave, and you can join us by signing the Paid Leave For All digital petition here. After all, the vast majority of women voters say it’s a key issue for them in the upcoming election.
Remarkably, the US is one of only six countries in the world without national paid family or maternity leave, with a quarter of women returning to work two weeks after giving birth.
Just two weeks ago, Glamour delivered the petition, with over 55,000 signatures, to all members of Congress on Capitol Hill. A number of politicians and activists attended a press conference for the bill in question, and Vice President Kamala Harris sent a video message of support, telling the crowd, “While the lack of paid leave impacts all workers, it impacts women most significantly. Women are 40% more likely to need family or medical leave. Study after study has shown that when women have paid family and medical leave, they are less likely to drop out of the workforce. And when women are able to remain in the workforce, it makes our nation stronger. Every worker in every job in every industry should have paid family and medical leave. Period.”
