Kamala Harris Wears Custom LaQuan Smith to Beyoncé’s Latest Renaissance Stop

Vice President Kamala Harris is a confirmed member of the BeyHive. The “veep” and her husband Doug Emhoff made a surprise appearance at Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour stop in Maryland on Saturday night (a nexus of political power, the show was also attended by the Obamas). The VP wore a fitted gold sequin button-down from LaQuan Smith, tailored white trousers, and gold pointy-toed heels.

“My brand is all about dressing powerful and strong women,” Smith tells Vogue. “Having Vice President Kamala Harris attend Beyoncé’s tour and wear a custom show look by me is an incredible moment. Two powerhouses uniting!”

When it comes to Smith’s star-studded clientele, the vice president is in good company. In addition to Bey and Kamala Harris, the designer has also dressed Ciara, Sydney Sweeney, Latto, and Megan Fox.

The Vice President accessorized her look with a necklace by Harwell Godfrey, a resident of her home state of California. A CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist in 2023, Godfrey’s work is rooted in the African diaspora.

Vice President Harris has a documented history of supporting Black designers. On the occasion of the Inauguration, she wore a violet Christopher John Rogers coat dress and pearl jewelry by Wilfredo Rosado. For the evening portion of the historic day, she wore a sequined dress and coat by Sergio Hudson, a look so popular—in conjunction with former First Lady Michelle Obama’s Inauguration Day pants by Hudson—that shoppers crashed Hudson’s website.

The VP wore another Hudson look for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in May. This time, Harris wore a navy blue sequined dress complete with the Los Angeles-based designer’s trademark structured shoulder. “It’s beyond an honor as always to dress this amazing trailblazing woman,” Hudson wrote on Instagram. She also wore a camel Pyer Moss coat to a COVID-19 memorial at the National Mall in 2021.
