On March 22, Kate Middleton told the world of her cancer diagnosis in a deeply personal video message.
During the clip, which was filmed on March 20 and shared last night by The Princess of Wales, the royal can be seen sitting on a bench in the gardens at Windsor as she spoke of her ‘shock’ at learning she had cancer. The decision to film in that spot was perhaps particularly poignant for the Princess—behind her, trees could be seen in bloom and there appeared to be a field of daffodils. The flowers are, in fact, a symbol of hope for those affected by cancer.
According to the cancer charity Marie Curie’s website, the flowers are “strong and resilient” and are seen as “a symbol of spring and symbolize new beginnings and rebirth. They’re a positive, life-affirming symbol, with a bright and joyful yellow.”
It was, perhaps, a subtle and poignant nod from the Princess to her fellow cancer sufferers that, as she said at the end of the video, they are “not alone.”
In a deeply personal clip which was shared yesterday, Kate Middleton revealed the news that after she had abdominal surgery in January, she was diagnosed with cancer. She said it had been a “huge shock,” saying she has been undergoing preemptive treatment for the past two months.
She said, “It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok.”
“As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits. Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too. As is the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both.”
