Kit Harington has ruled that out, saying the possibility of a sequel for HBO’s blockbuster series ‘Game of Thrones’ centered on Jon Snow is not on the cards for now. Speaking with The Associated Press during an interview to promote his new film, “Blood for Dust,” a crime drama, on Tuesday, Harington was very clear: no such plans are on the horizon right now.
With only one, “Game of Thrones,” having wrapped in 2019 after an eight-season run, a lot of chatter goes on about potential spinoffs. The only one that’s been ordered so far is the HBO prequel “House of the Dragon,” set 200 years before “Game of Thrones.
There had been reports floating in for a while that a sequel was on the cards, and this time around, it would be focused on one of the favorite characters, Snow, who had transformed from a simple outcast of the Night’s Watch into a powerful persona in Westeros. Harington, 37, however, insinuated that they had mulled over a couple of ideas but insisted that nothing has materialized, and thus the project is on ice. HBO declined to comment on the matter.
This isn’t the first spin-off project that HBO has stopped. In fact, last year it apparently stopped another for a prequel set thousands of years earlier, even though a pilot episode had been filmed with Naomi Watts in the lead role.
Happily, Hjsono is returning to HBO for a role in the third season of “Industry,” a drama that delves into the inner workings of London’s competitive financial industry. “I like the sound of the show and its overall tone,” said the actor.
Meanwhile, Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell have already announced the premiere of “Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight,” a prequel to “House of the Dragon,” which takes place one hundred years before the events of “Game of Thrones.”
