A Korean hip-hop festival was abruptly postponed just two weeks before it was supposed to take place, inviting backlash from both local and overseas fans.
Organizers of the Whoop Festival announced via their socials over the weekend that the Korean hip-hop event is no longer happening and that a new date would be announced at an unspecified date and location. No reason was given for the abrupt postponement.
“Both the location and the performance date had to be changed. A new date will be announced by the firm once it has been established,” the announcement read.
The organizers, The Dream and Destiny Co., Ltd., said they would be issuing refunds until this Sunday at 6pm via The Concert ticketing platform account on the messaging app LINE.
The cancellation comes in the same month the Whoop Festival would have taken place, just two weeks from its intended date of Oct. 28.
Naturally, the news angered fans, who said that the last-minute announcement was unprofessional, while some are resigned to the idea that the festival has been canceled rather than postponed. Moreover, several international customers had already booked flights to Bangkok for the festival.
“Why do you treat consumers like this? If people already bought the tickets, then it’s like giving money to the company for nothing,” @damiisdemigod tweeted. “Not to mention those who booked trains, flights, and tour buses, where they have a hard time getting refunds or can’t get them at all.”
“I PAID MY FLIGHT TICKET TO BANGKOK!!!” tweeted @liyenniee.
“That’s really unprofessional and unethical. Please fully refund my festival and flight tickets, also my accommodation,” tweeted another.
Initially, when the announcement was made, tickets were still available for purchase and there was no official notification of the cancellation on The Concert ticketing platform on LINE.
Whoop Festival would have taken place at MGI Hall in Show DC on Oct. 28, and would have seen performances by Korean rappers Big Naughty, Wonstein, Ash Island, and Bobby.
As of today, the festival has not responded to any of the complaints leveled against them.
