Considered one of, if not the greatest western ever made, Sergio Leone’s 1968 film “Once Upon a Time in the West” is coming to 4K UHD disc with a release set for May 14th.
The new edition will showcase an all-new 4K restoration from the original 35mm Techniscope camera negative by a collaboration between Paramount’s archive team, L’Immagine Ritrovata and The Film Foundation.
The restored film will be available in HDR10 and Dolby Vision and will clock in at the full length of 165 minutes, restoring twenty minutes excised by Paramount in 1968.
The aim of the new restoration is to match the 2007 Film Foundation photochemical restoration which Martin Scorsese oversaw.
The release will also include a number of special features, including a commentary by Spaghetti Westerns Podcast hosts Jay Jennings and Tom Betts.
Another commentary track will feature contributions from legendary filmmakers John Carpenter, John Milius, and Alex Cox, as well as film historians Sir Christopher Frayling and Dr. Sheldon Hall, and members of the cast and crew.
There will also be featurettes, the original theatrical trailer, and an all-new look at the film from critic and historian Leonard Maltin.
