Lew Rothman, the veteran entertainment executive who held roles at The Weinstein Co. and Strategy PR, died unexpectedly Dec. 22 at his home in East Hampton, New York. He was 63.
Rothman was known for his humor and for having an eye on the ways Hollywood and technology could complement each other. In the 1990s, he and his wife, Serina Mayer, formed the new media consultancy Vibemaster as a way to build closer relationships between entertainment and technology companies.
He also helped develop CASTNET, the first online commercial casting company, and went on to serve as CTO for Atomic Pop, considered the first online record label. It was founded by his wife and veteran record exec Al Teller.
In 2006, he joined The Weinstein Co. as CTO, moving with his family from the West Coast to his native New York. He served in the role for more than 10 years.
Rothman joined Strategy PR/Consulting in 2016 as head of business affairs and operations for the bi-coastal firm that specializes in awards campaigns for movie studios and TV and streaming companies.
In his spare time, Rothman was known for building furniture, as well as working on sculptures with his wife. He was a dog lover and enjoyed time with his dachshund, Bubu, his companion of 18 years.
In addition to Mayer, his wife and partner of 33 years, Rothman is survived by his daughter, Raella; and his sisters. Barbara Kreiger and Cheryl Ann Krane. Services will be held Jan. 5, with more information here.
