Sega is raising some eyebrows with its decision to essentially paywall the New Game Plus feature in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
Spotted by PCGamer, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth’s official website details the differences between each version of the game. In total, there are four different versions of Infinite Wealth: three digital and one physical.
As you can see in the screenshot below, the Standard Edition includes the base game and nothing additional. But what’s caught some attention is how New Game Plus mode is mentioned as a perk if you decide to buy the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition digitally.
Additionally, Redditor Megasomark posted a month ago that they contacted Sega’s support team to clarify the situation. Sega’s support team confirmed, “New Game Plus is indeed only available with the Master Vacation pack.”
Sega did not immediately respond to IGN’s request for comment.
New Game Plus mode is only available in the digital Deluxe and Ultimate Editions of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
Sega does not specify much about the physical copy of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth aside from the pre-order incentives you obtain. It’s worth noting that the Master Vacation Bundle is not listed among them.
However, based on the website and the prior communication posted on Reddit, it appears that Sega is locking an otherwise commonly unlockable game mode behind more expensive versions of the game. For context, the Standard Edition is $69.99, the Deluxe Edition is $84.99, and the Ultimate Edition will set you back $109.99.
In our final preview of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, we said: “In many ways, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is a watershed moment for franchise. It’s quite likely a final send off for the cancer-stricken underworld legend Kiryu, and the official induction ceremony for Kasuga as Kiryu’s successor in the series moving forward.”
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is out January 26, on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
