The Infectious Grooves show at the Roundhouse in Sydney last Friday was an electrifying mix of funk-metal mastery that left the audience in awe. From the moment the band invaded the stage, the crowd sensed they were in for something special.
The “Grooves” took the stage in full force after 9 pm, led by Suicidal Tendencies‘ frontman Mike Muir and legendary guitarist Dean Pleasants, alongside long-time friend and Metallica bass player Robert Trujillo, Velvet Revolver’s Dave Kushner, plus former Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg. The band started the night with “These Freaks Are Here to Party” followed by “Turtle Wax”.
One of the highlights of the show was their take on David Bowie‘s classic “Fame,” a song that was chanted by the entire audience. The seamless blend of funk, metal, and punk elements that define Infectious Grooves’ sound was something very special, and you could tell the band is a group of friends having fun because the synergy among them is electrifying. Each song showcased funky bass lines, blistering guitar solos, and powerhouse drumming by Weinberg that had the audience dancing and headbanging in equal measure.
After a short encore, the band returned to give a special treat to all the old-school Suicidal Tendencies fans as they performed “Subliminal,” “Send Your Money,” and “Pledge Your Allegiance,” all with Trujillo on Bass, unleashing cheers and a couple of circle-pits.
Overall, the Infectious Grooves show in Sydney was a testament to the band’s enduring legacy and their ability to captivate audiences with their unique blend of genres. A show that might have been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for fans.
