Lola Brooke has teamed up with Bryson Tiller for a sultry new single “You,” which reinterprets Foxy Brown’s 1996 hit, “Get Me Home,” featuring BLACKStreet.
Although the “Big Gator” has been compared to the fellow Brooklynite many times for their similar tone and delivery, Lola holds her own on this one.
The single, accompanied with a Samuel McKnight-directed visual, sees Lola sipping champagne as she prances around a dressing room. Tiller joins a young lady on a balcony overlooking a beautiful scene before he and Lola unite on a glass stage hovering a pool.
Just in time for “cuffing season,” the Khris Riddick-Tynes and LilJuMadeDaBeat-produced track has a warmness to it — just as Foxy’s track did upon its debut. The video and single delivers a “feel-good energy,” as the “Don’t Play With It” rhymer walks a red carpet, dressed in a gem-encrusted black dress and Paparazzi snap away.
XXL Freshman Rob49 also cameos as Lola’s date for the night.
Lola raps, “I’m a bada** Brooklyn brown skin bi**h/ And I love a hood ni**a with some toxic d*ck/ Nothing but some socks, he from Bronx in it/ Have me walking all crooked in my Crocs and sh*t/ Bi**h, I go Taraji for my baby boy/ Ride it like a Kawasaki, that’s his favorite toy/ I’ma swipe his EBT like a Amex/ Give it to him raw no drawers, no latex.”
Tiller sings the chorus, “I’m yours for the summer, I want her/ Drinking ’til we drunk, I’m choosin’ you, baby/ Things I wanna do to you, baby/ You say he crazy so I gotta take a risk on you/ Like why would I lie when I’m tryna put this on you, baby?”
“You” follows Lola’s last single release, “Just Relax,” which follows after “Disrespectful” and her RIAA certified Gold single “Don’t Play With It” featuring Billy B. This year, the Arista signee is also nominated for Best Breakthrough Hip-Hop Artist at the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards.
