“White Collar” series creator Jeff Eastin has confirmed that plans are officially underway to revive the beloved series.
Eastin appeared at Variety‘s TV Fest on Thursday and says a new version of the police procedural is in the works saying: “We’re gonna reboot. I’m writing the script” with Bomer adding “I’m in” while co-stars Tim DeKay and Tiffani Thiessen also affirmed their commitment.
DeKay says: “It’s a fantastic script and it answers all the questions that one would have if you watch the show, and it would introduce the show to those who haven’t seen it as well. Both edges of the sword are honed.”
The series aired for six seasons from 2009–2014 and followed charming con man Neal Caffrey (Matt Bomer), who was paired with FBI Special Agent in Charge Peter Burke (Tim DeKay) as a criminal informant.
Thiessen, Marsha Thomason, Sharif Atkins, Hilarie Burton and two late talents Willie Garson and Diahann Carroll co-starred.
The series was one of USA Network’s key ‘blue sky shows’ – lighthearted and breezy yet smart action or drama procedurals that often (but not necessarily) take place in sunny locales. “Suits,” “Burn Notice,” “Psych,” “Covert Affairs” and “Royal Pains” fell into this group.
“Suits” saw a resurgence in popularity last Summer when it popped up on Netflix and the streamer is trying to do the same with “White Collar” this Summer. According to Eastin, it’s working as the show is “doing really, really good” which has led to the revival talk.
Where the reboot will land isn’t clear, though with Fox Television Studios handling production of the original it’s likely it’ll end up at Hulu.
