It seems Max’s revival of the cancelled Cinemax series “Warrior” is one-and-done. The streamer has cancelled the series after just one season as a Max original, and the show’s third season overall.
Based on the writings of martial arts legend Bruce Lee, the gritty crime drama is set during the brutal Tong Wars of San Francisco’s Chinatown in the late 19th century.
Ah Sahm, a Chinese martial arts expert, travels to 1870s San Francisco in search of his sister and is conscripted into said Tong Wars. Jonathan Tropper (“Banshee”) created the series.
The series began life as a Cinemax original in 2019 to strong reviews and a quick second season renewal which aired in late 2020. With Cinemax shutting down its original slate, HBO Max revived it for a third season which finally premiered in June this year.
The series may find a whole new audience in February when all three seasons will be made available on Netflix. “Warrior” will continue to be available on Max as well.
Andrew Koji, Dianne Doan, Olivia Cheng, Jason Tobin, Kieran Bew, Dean Jagger, Tom Weston-Jones, Hoon Lee, Perry Yung, Langley Kirkwood, Miranda Raison, Chen Tang, Chelsea Muirhead, Adam Rayner, Mark Dacascos and Joe Taslim co-star.
