The Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop trailer, released on July 25, gives viewers a glimpse of what to expect, featuring appearances from influential rappers such as Atlanta native Latto, Tierra Whack, and Coi Leray, among others. With four episodes, the documentary boasts an impressive lineup of executive producers, including hip-hop legend MC Lyte, Culture House, Dream Hampton, Troy Carter, Raeshem Nijhon, Carri Twigg, Nicole Galovski, Justin Simien, and Jennifer Ryan.

Many fans eagerly look forward to the series, and one user wrote, “Here for it! I’m excited to see the Legendary ladies in Hip-Hop and the new girlies coming together for this docuseries. I know it’s gonna be good af.”

However, only some people are thrilled about the upcoming series. Some fans have voiced their concerns over the notable absence of iconic rapper Nicki Minaj from the lineup stating, “You have to acknowledge Nicki Minaj when it comes to Women in hip-hop. This disrespect to her legacy is exactly why Barbz go so hard. Nicki Minaj has had a longer and more successful career than any of these women ya’ll shown and has done more for MUSIC in general as well.”

Another user defended Minaj, stating, “You cannot have a show, conversation, or story about female hip hop without Nicki Minaj.. not under any circumstance. Anytime after 2010, she has to be apart of the discussion or you’re wasting everybody’s time. Seriously.”

Fans won’t have to wait much longer to dive into the series, as it is scheduled to premiere on Netflix for streaming on August 9.

Recently, Queen Latifah was chosen as one of the inductees for the 2023 Black Music Month Class of the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame. In addition, kicking off the 2023 BET Awards weekend in style, hip-hop legend MC Lyte hosted a momentous ceremony named The Prelude: An Evening With MC Lyte.

This exclusive event was dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the trailblazers and influencers of hip-hop.

The official trailer for the much-awaited rap documentary Mixtape was unveiled on July 13, sparking tremendous anticipation among fans. With appearances from renowned mixtape artists like Lil Wayne, Jadakiss, Fabolous, and DJ Clue, as well as guest appearances from DJ Green Lantern, A$AP Rocky, DJ Khaled, and DJ Drama, the documentary is set to explore the culture and influence of mixtapes in the hip-hop scene.
