New Italian eatery, Il Locale, brings authentic flavors to Bali

Culinary aficionados in Bali are in for a treat with the newly inaugurated Il Locale, which offers the essence of authentic Italian cuisine. Nestled in Berawa, this industrial-style eatery prides itself on staying true to Italy’s culinary heritage while embracing nature-inspired dining.

Renowned Italian-Australian restaurateur Mauro Marcucci spearheads the venture, bringing with him a wealth of experience from his notable establishments across Australia, including Caffe e Cucina and Il Bacaro in Melbourne; Italian Street Kitchen and Pizza e Birra in Sydney; as well as Beccofino in Brisbane.

Marcucci also remains at the helm of Baccomatto Osteria in Sydney.

With a vision to share his award-winning blend of unpretentious yet delectable cuisine, along with warm hospitality with the Indonesian audience, Marcucci has put an emphasis on the handcrafted aspect of Il Locale – particularly in crafting pasta.

“We wanted to do simple, honest Italian handcrafted food in a venue that makes you feel like you’re at home,” he said in a statement sent to Coconuts Bali.

“And since the Balinese culture is just as focused on the artisanal, we thought the concept will fit here really nicely.”

Among the highlights is the Handrolled Spaghetti with Blue Swimmer Crab and Orange Wine, a beloved dish that marries local seafood with the eatery’s distinctive pasta, complemented by a touch of natural wine acidity. Guests can also relish the stonebaked pizzettas, reminiscent of Roman favorites, and the perennially cherished Battered Zucchini Flower, now luxuriously filled with truffle, honey, and sheep’s milk pecorino.

Il Locale’s cocktail selection combines Italian flair with a touch of Indonesia.

“The concept of the cocktails are simple. We’ve combined an Indonesian touch with Italian beverage culture, using plenty of local produce and businesses,” Marcucci noted.

Standouts include Il Locale Fashion, Limoncello Gin Collins, and Canggu al Pompelmo, each offering an Italian twist (with a hint of Balinese influence) on classic libations.

The minimalist charm of Il Locale extends to its interiors, where industrial elements and ample concrete merge seamlessly with an open kitchen and dining area. The design is the brainchild of the acclaimed Architrend Indonesia, a seasoned design firm known for creating visually striking venues.
