Lionsgate
Back in April last year came news that a TV series version of author Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling “Twilight” book series was in early development at Lionsgate Television.
Sinead Daly (“Raised by Wolves,” “The Get Down”) was attached to write the script but specifics of this version were under wraps so it wasn’t clear what kind of show it would be – spin-off, reboot, prequel, etc. but Meyer was expected to be involved.
Cut to today and Deadline reports that Lionsgate Vice Chairman Michael Burns appeared at the Morgan Stanley media conference today where he indcates the “Twilight” series has made serious progress.
The big reveal though was that it will be animated, not live-action. Speaking about the studio’s plans for its big franchises, he also teases another “John Wick” TV series:
“We’re going to go out with the Twilight series, an animated series, I think there’ll be a lot of interest in that. I think we’ll take one of our great action franchises starring Keanu Reeves, I think it’ll be a television series.”
According to the outlet, the project had been envisioned as animated from the get-go.
Meanwhile the new “John Wick” series follows in the wake of the prequel mini-series “The Continental” which premiered last year to mixed reviews. It was Peacock’s top original launch of 2023.
