The Blumhouse supernatural thriller “Night Swim,” the sole wide release opening tomorrow, is set to wash in with an opening weekend in the $9-11 million range.
Budgeted at $15 million, it’s a decent start for the movie which has no real horror competition until “Imaginary” opens in March.
Potentially dampening expectations are the rather soggy reviews with the film getting just 31% (4.7/10) on Rotten Tomatoes and have roundly criticised the movie.
Based on the acclaimed 2014 short film by Rod Blackhurst and Bryce McGuire, Wyatt Russell stars as Ray Waller – a former major league baseball player forced into early retirement by a degenerative illness.
He moves into a new home with his concerned wife Eve (Oscar nominee Kerry Condon), teenage daughter Izzy (Amélie Hoeferle) and young son Elliot (Gavin Warren).
Secretly hoping, against the odds to return to pro ball, Ray persuades Eve that the new home’s backyard swimming pool will be fun for the kids and provide physical therapy for him.
But a dark secret in the home’s past will unleash a malevolent force that will drag the family under, into the depths of inescapable terror.
