Though some of the smaller titles from September have already moved, and there has been talk of major Fall tentpole films shifting – no major studio film scheduled for later this year has moved due to the writer’s and actor’s strikes… at least, not yet.
One of the biggest titles rumored to be making the shift is Legendary and Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Dune: Part Two” which was rumored the other day to be potentially shifting off its prime November 3rd theatrical release to sometime in 2024.
According to Deadline, for now, “Dune: Part Two” is staying exactly where it is. Both Warners and Legendary have to agree on a date shift, and Legendary is reportedly in “wait-and-see mode”.
The studio is said to have until September before the next leg of the film’s marketing has to move forward, and so aren’t looking to make any decisions regarding its fate until likely after the Labor Day holiday weekend.
Should it move there are reportedly three options – March 15th, April 19th or June 21st. Two of those are empty slots reserved for tentpole films, whilst the March date is where “Godzilla vs. Kong” is slated to open. The latter date would likely be helped by a potential Cannes Film Festival launch.
Other tentpoles hitting late in the year, including “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” “Wonka,” “Napoleon” and more, are also all staying put for now.
