As part of IGN Fan Fest 2024, check out an exclusive sneak peek of the One Piece English dub fight between Luffy (Gear 5) and Kaido, where Luffy explodes onto the scene showcasing his powerful form.
In the exclusive clip, the Straw Hat pirates are on the back foot as Kaido, one of the four deadly emperors of the sea, closes in on victory after beating Luffy for the third time (due to outside interference) over the fate of Wano country. You hate to see it.
Fortunately for the freedom fighters, Luffy’s aforementioned injuries awaken his Gear 5 transformation — an all-white cloud-like form that allows him to extend his rubber powers to anything he touches.
As punctuated by Toei Animation’s unabashed usage of old-school cartoon sound effects, Luffy has gone full Looney Tunes, yoinking the colossal dragon from a hole in the ceiling as if he were pulling a weed from the ground and smashing him into the ground like a living hammer. Kaido may have had the upper hand when the pair were fighting on traditional power-scaling battle anime rules, but now Luffy’s got the leg up on his scaley foe thanks to Gear 5’s gag-manga-inspired antics.
The above clip takes place in episode 1071 of One Piece. According to Game Rant, the fanfare surrounding the long-awaited episode was so fervent that it caused Crunchyroll’s servers to crash mere hours before it was set to premeire.
