The CW
The CW has had many long-running scripted shows over the years, but all seem to pale in comparison to “Supernatural” in terms of longevity.
The beloved cult series launched in 2005 and managed to run for 15 seasons and 327 episodes before finally meeting its maker in 2020.
Combined with the ending of the Arrowverse, the cancellation of various other series, and the network’s takeover by Nexstar – the show is now more of a symbol of a bygone era than anything else.
Both the show’s stars – Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles – have spoken about potentially rebooting the series before, even as “The Winchesters” prequel only lasted a single season.
However in a recent interview on Tommy DiDario’s I’ve Never Said This Before podcast, Padalecki says that return is contingent on it being something more akin to a limited series than another full season:
“I will say this. I don’t want to do another 15 years of Supernatural. I don’t want to do another 5 years of Supernatural, I am dying to do a reboot of Supernatural akin to the Gilmore Girls reboot.
Here are four one-and-a-half-hour episodes. We’ll shoot it in three months. I think Jensen [Ackles] and I both said in 2020, ‘we’d love to revisit these characters, this world. Give us five years.’
Which is next year. And I see him often. And we talk often. I think he and I are both really eager to do it. I’m certain I’ll put the flannel on again and play Sam Winchester.”
Padalecki’s schedule has been freed up a bit as his “Walker” series was recently cancelled by the network. However former “Supernatural” showrunner Eric Kripke is believed to be considering Padalecki for a role in the fifth and final season of “The Boys”. That films later this year.
