“Giorgio Galimberti: Alchemy of Shadow” is part of the program of the side events taking place during the PhotoVogue Festival.
With approximately 40 photographs, the exhibition “Giorgio Galimberti: Alchemy of Shadow” at Still Fotografia, curated by Alessandro Curti, offers a visual narration of the most significant moments of the artist from Meda.
Constantly in balance between reality and imagination, Galimberti invite us in his world of everyday life and perceptive, abstract images, in a never-ending movement which reminds us the futurist concept of dynamism. The artist challenge the fixation of a single perspective, trying to reach almost impossible viewpoints, creating, in this way, realist images born from unsettling references and visual connections. In the dreamy and mysterious atmospheres it is evident the influence of the artistic currents of metaphysics and constructivism which lead to a universe where time seems suspended like in a painting of De Chirico or Carrà. This dreamlike feature is balanced by the graphic trait of the images, evoking the precision and the sharpness of Rodchenko’s work. The relationship established by visual stimuli with reality is at the core of this exhibition: Galimberti delves into objects, landscapes and architecture, catching their essence through their surfaces and materials.
“This exhibition offers, for the first time, a retrospective of Giorgio Galimberti’s career, active in the Italian photographic scene for nearly twenty years,” says curator Alessandro Curti. “It attempts to summarise the stories, inspirations, and experiences of this artist. The title ‘Alchemy of Shadow’ seeks to explore the opposite extremes of the color spectrum, with a reading that carries distinct symbolic and emotional meanings. In a narrative with autobiographical undertones, Galimberti stages light and darkness in a dualism that addresses the contrast between opposites and the complexity of human experiences.”
