Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap label and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment are in exclusive talks to acquire rights to the classic “Thin Man” film series which they would jointly produce.
Based on the Dashiell Hammett novel, the original 1934 film follows a detective named Nick Charles (William Powell) who quits his job to become an alcoholic ‘trophy husband’ to the wealthy socialite Nora (Myrna Loy) whom he just married.
They soon end up investigating a murder that involves an eccentric inventor and his bizarre family. Along the way they engage in a lot of witty banter with each other. The work generated five sequels and a TV series in the late 1950s.
The rights recently became available which led to an auction and now these talks. No discussions of casting is happening out of respect to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. Securing a writer is the next immediate step.
At one time Johnny Depp and Rob Marshall were considering a remake at Warner Bros. Pictures that never got out of development.
LuckyChap is coming off “Barbie,” whilst Plan B has David Fincher’s “The Killer” coming next month to Netflix.
