This highly anticipated album, consisting of 12 powerful songs, delves deep into themes of resilience, patience, acceptance, self-awareness, and rebuilding. ABBY draws from a diverse range of musical influences, infusing modern American roots music with elements of punk-rock and electronic music, resulting in a sound that is both bold and dynamic. Inspired by a life-changing breakup and the subsequent soul-searching that followed, ABBY has crafted an album that serves as a cathartic journey of self-discovery.
Says ABBY about “Quiet On Sunset”: “I wanted to create an electronic/folk song with lots of dark synths and basses blasting at the end. The organic elements I tracked with were the banjo and the marching drum…I love playing with texture when I produce, and I think there is something interesting in there about the two drastically different genres blending together–the duality of wants and needs within a relationship clashing.”
Prepare to be enchanted by ABBY POSNER’s unique musical fusion and thought-provoking lyrics as you embark on this extraordinary musical experience.
Tell us about your new music.
I am releasing a full-length album called Second Chances, coming out everywhere on August 11th. I am really proud of how this album came together. The songs really poured out of me and came from a very heavy breakup that I went through. Making this album was healing, and it provided a lot of perspective in my personal life. I produced and recorded all of the instruments except for two songs. I had a guest pedal steel player (Devon Teran) on a few tunes, and my six-piece band tracked live in the studio for a few tunes, but otherwise, everything was tracked and mixed here in my home studio. I am hoping that my audience will really be able to resonate with this one. It is about loss, resilience, hope, patience, and forgiveness.
What was the writing and recording process?
One of my favorite things about making an album is playing all the parts and tracking everything — it feels very sacred and meditative. It is a lot like painting a picture with sound.
Like I said, this album poured out of me. It wasn’t that I felt pressured to release another record for the sake of putting out new music; I felt like I had to get these songs out of me in order to heal and in order to solve the Rubik’s cube going on in my head at the time. It was a journey, and it helped me become a more clear and grounded person.
Is there a particular lyric that speaks to you?
In the single “Quiet On Sunset,” I wrote, “Where did all the love go? Is it all gone? She’s been on the move, but I’m not moving on.” This is about two people being in very different places and looking back on a relationship that started out with so much love and joy. It is about me not being willing to let go and still wanting to fight for the love that became lost. It is amazing how things can change so drastically, and we, as humans, have to have radical acceptance. Everything is impermanent, constantly changing, and shifting. That is what this song is about.
What do you hope fans/listeners take away with them when they listen to your music?
I really hope this song and this album help people to heal and lean into forgiveness, not only with people that they love but with themselves. We all make mistakes, we are messy, and we have to have grace with ourselves and others. There is another line in “Quiet on Sunset” that says, “Every day we miss, we are losing time.”
I hope this song makes people realize the love they have and the people that make life a little brighter. Perhaps my listeners will be inspired to call someone they haven’t talked to in a few years to reconnect.
