Back in 2021, Prince Harry took on a role as the chief impact officer for BetterUp, a digital coaching platform. For the second year in a row, the prince traveled to the company’s annual Uplift Summit in San Francisco, where he appeared on a Wednesday panel alongside author and organizational psychology professor Adam Grant and Kelly Jones, the Chief People Officer of telecommunications company Cisco.
According to a statement on the website the prince shares with his wife, Meghan Markle, the panel was called “Beyond Burnout: Transforming C-Level Stress Into Strength,” and Harry spoke with his fellow panelists about the strategies executives use to manage stress. “The trio dove into the psychological toll of leading through uncertainty, sharing personal anecdotes, evidence-based practices, and forward-thinking policies aimed at helping leaders thrive amidst the pressures of today’s world and modern corporate life,” it read. “This year’s summit, which centered on courageous leadership, provides a unique forum for C-suite leaders, business executives, and HR professionals and advocates.”
The post on Harry’s website also shows him posing with fellow speaker Mindy Kaling, who once appeared on an episode of Meghan Markle’s podcast Archetypes. The summit’s lineup of speakers also included BetterUp CEO Alexi Robichaux, author Brené Brown, actor Tracee Ellis Ross, and a handful of leaders from government and industry.
In her panel discussion at the event, Kaling addressed some of the lessons she has learned from motherhood. Grant asked her if she had been “rethinking” anything lately in a lightning round of questions, according to Hello! “Gentle parenting I am rethinking,” Kaling said. “It’s this thing lots of LA and NY and certain progressive cities do, and sometimes you just have to scream at your kids… so I am it!”
Over the three years he has worked with BetterUp, Harry has spoken at the company’s annual conference on multiple occasions and appeared alongside Robichaux at major events. In a 2022 podcast, the prince explained why he decided to work with the company. “Look, I’ll be honest, I had no idea about BetterUp before I moved to the U.S.,” he said. “The chief impact officer role for me at BetterUp is 100% about driving advocacy and awareness for mental fitness.”
