PUBG: Battlegrounds is one of the most played battle royale titles around the world. One of the main reasons for that is its free-to-play concept. You only need to pay to obtain certain cosmetic items in the game. Recently, though, one of the skins has been giving players additional perks making many players call out the dev for being “pay-to-win.” The Aston Martin car skins in PUBG have attracted scrutiny for reduced headshot and grenade damage.
Krafton has finally spoken about the issue in a lengthy blog post detailing what caused the issue and how they are working to fix it.
Pay-to-win Aston Martin car skin reduces grenade damage
The issue has occurred with the special vehicle skins in PUBG. These skins are part of a collaboration between Krafton and a brand. These include the McLaren collab, Steampunk-themed SUV, and most recently, the Aston Martin collab. These skins are tougher to obtain and require players to use cash to get them.
The “V12 Vantage Roadster” Sports Car skin, is one such skin as a part of the PUBG x Aston Martin collaboration. Krafton said that the skin was designed as a “low-profile vehicle” to “faithfully mirror the real vehicle model.” The devs added that this led to situations where no damage from grenades was received by players standing on one side of the vehicle. This “unexpected outcome” was a result of merging the original vehicle with the revamped vehicle skin.
A fix for this won’t happen immediately, though. Krafton said that the only way to address it was to take a look at the grenade damage structure and modify it. However, doing so would lead to a change in the overall grenade mechanic. Thus, a fix can’t be immediately implemented but it will come in the future.
No headshots in the car skins is being fixed
Krafton has said that it has designed the Aston Martin skins in PUBG to exactly resemble their real-world counterparts. One such aspect is the elevated seats in Aston Martin cars. As a result of this, the head is being blocked by the headrest. This makes it tough to hit headshots from the back.
Krafton is bringing a fix to this issue immediately, though. In the upcoming 25.1 live server update, the headrest portion of the vehicles can be penetrated by bullets to inflict headshot damage.
