Queen Latifah, Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes, and Jermaine Dupri Named Honorees by Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame

The Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame has announced its 2023 class of inductees, which includes Queen Latifah, Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes, and Jermaine Dupri. These influential hip-hop figures in the music industry will be honored with Crown Jewel of Excellence emblems on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, in front of the Mercedes Benz Stadium in downtown Atlanta.

Billboard reports that Queen Latifah, Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes, and Jermaine Dupri have been selected for the 2023 Black Music Month Class of Inductees for the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame. This joint announcement by BAMAssoc and GEC recognizes their significant contributions to Black music and entertainment.

The honorees will be celebrated for their artistic achievements and impact. Other notable names being inducted into the 2023 class are Magic Johnson, Dallas Austin, Marvin Sapp, and Mahalia Jackson. Each honoree will receive a Crown Jewel of Excellence emblem installed on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, adding to the rich cultural heritage of the location.

The Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame was established by Demmette Guidry, Erica Thomas, Michael Mauldin, and Catherine Brewton. The organization aims to preserve, protect, and promote the legacy and future of Black music. 

In announcing the 2023 honorees, Catherine Brewton emphasized their embodiment of Black excellence and the enduring impact of their bodies of work for future generations. The annual induction ceremony, organized by the Black American Music Association (BAMAssoc) and the Georgia Entertainment Caucus (GEC), will occur in Atlanta on October 26

This recognition comes in addition to previous accolades received by the artists. Lil Wayne, Dr. Dre, and Missy Elliott were honored at the Black Music Collective during Grammy season for their significant musical contributions. Jermaine Dupri will also be honored at the 2023 Essence Festival for the 30th anniversary of his label, So So Def, alongside other tributes to mark hip-hop’s 50th anniversary.
