There is such a thing as a party being too good, apparently.
It seems that while a town official was poking around perennial East End hotspot Ruschmeyer’s to make sure the place wasn’t rocking too hard, a speaker literally (and awkwardly) burst into flames.
“Earlier in June, a noise violation was issued to the manager of Ruschmeyer’s in Montauk after a noise meter reading was taken at the edge of the property,” the Town of East Hampton, which oversees Montauk nightspots, scolded in a press release, “While he was there, a speaker in the back bar caught on fire, and a fire alarm was activated.”
The camp-like venue got an all-around ticking off, with the town officials adding that, on June 16 and 17, “tickets were issued by the fire marshal for overcrowding, no sprinklers, change of use, no operating permit, no music permit, and obstructed exits.”
Ruschmeyer’s in Montauk is already in hot water with the town just weeks into the summer season.
A rep denies all charges, except the speaker setting on fire.

The spot ran into trouble last year when it had its temporary liquor license revoked for breaking stipulations laid out by the State Liquor Authority including a “Footloose”-esque “no dancing” rule.
Meanwhile, in 2021 “Call Her Daddy” podcaster Alex Cooper slammed the spot for kicking her out after she had paid a bouncer to get inside — but ended up on the wrong side of the rustic velvet rope anyway.
“In this moment I felt slighted, I felt wronged … There are six of us, standing in the pouring rain with no f–king dignity left and no wristbands,” she said.
Podcaster Alex Cooper complained of getting kicked out of the spot after bribing a doorman to get her in.
But she added that she later met the owner, saying, “The Ruschmeyer’s guy was so nice; such a nice dude.”
According to the Real Deal, the spot was quietly put up for sale last August by owner Jeremy Morton, who bought it in 2021. It is unclear if it sold yet.
