ReadersMagnet will exhibit “Kintsugi” by Robert D. Grappel at the 2023 Hong Kong Book Fair this coming July 19-25, 2023.

Robert D. Grappel’s poetry and inspiration book “Kintsugi” will be exhibited by self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet at the 2023 Hong Kong Book Fair. The event will take place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, 1 Expo Dr, Wan Chai, Hong Kong, this July 19-25, 2023.

The Hong Kong Book Fair is one of the largest literary events in Asia. It is a grand summer event in Hong Kong where people around the world visit and experience the different activities offered: book exhibits, live entertainment, workshops, panel discussions, and more.

“Kintsugi” is the author’s third collection of original poems and illustrations, covering diverse themes such as Japanese art forms, politics, science, travel, religion, and music. Robert D. Grappel believes that the poems in this book came to him as gifts, and he is passing them as his gifts to his readers. He finds it almost impossible to just sit down and write a poem or a song. His poems seem to grow organically and just appear when they are ready, and he is receptive.

“Kintsugi” is the Japanese artform where repairing pieces of broken pottery with gold lacquer makes a more-beautiful whole. In Grappel’s poetry book, it is a metaphor for putting together different pieces of our broken society to form one complete and beautiful world. The poems in this book fit together to provide insight into Grappel’s world of creativity and versatility.

Author’s Biography

The poems in this book came to Robert D. Grappel as gifts, and he is passing them on to you as his gift. As he has said in his previous two books, he finds it almost impossible to just sit down and write a poem or a song – and he greatly admires those who have this talent. His poems seem to grow organically and just appear when they are ready and he is receptive.

He first started to write poetry while in college, in addition to obtaining graduate degrees in Physics and Computer Science. Attending school in the late 60s, he naturally became a self-taught folk singer – a hobby that he pursues avidly to this day. His career involved designing radar and communications systems for air-traffic control – combining his scientific bent with his life-long fascination with aviation.

Finally, he would like to thank all those who provided the inspiration for these poems. They appeared almost fully formed in his consciousness – he had only to write them down before they could vanish into the void where beauty is born. He has done some editing and smoothing of the rough edges, wrapping these gifts in shiny paper and tying them with a silken bow. He hopes that you enjoy them.
