Embracing the Year of the Dragon, Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) hopes he will reach higher peaks. “I need to continue learning and accepting new challenges. My sign is the dragon and it’s a symbol of really good things. I hope I can rise to another level.”
Family traditions make the holidays more meaningful. Ruco has a tradition of pouring tea for his parents every year. “I am someone who likes to celebrate festivities. The decorations around the house are very important and everything has a meaning. Making New Year cakes and visiting friends and family to pay respects are things I make sure to do. My daughter is starting to grow up and turn into a toddler. Every holiday I spend with her feels so much livelier.”
Asked what changes he hopes for his wife Phoebe Sin (單文柔) in the New Year, Ruco hopes she will be able to do the things she wants. Ruco said, “This way, she’ll be able to distress. This is really important. My wife always laughs–I hope she can continue like this. If she encounters any difficulty, we can figure it out together.”
For Phoebe, she hopes Ruco can try new things. “He has a lot of transferrable skills from many years of acting experience in dramas. We can add these elements into filming short content and showing a fresh side of him to audiences on different Internet platforms.”
As to plans for having a second baby, Phoebe is open to conceiving this year or next. She will continue to focus on her own brand and being an influencer. “I have plans to introduce new products on different holidays or collaborate with different brands.”
Influenced by Ruco, Phoebe is now also very attentive to traditions. “Every new year, I’ll personally buy all of the traditional items and food to serve friends and family. I also buy a lot of flowers to decorate my home. I’ll also wear red and dress my daughter in traditional outfits. These past few years, we’ve added one more ritual which is going to the temple to burn incense on New Year’s Day to pray for our families’ health and remind myself of my goals for the new year.”
Recently Ruco’s mother had a health scare, but she is slowly starting to recover. Since Ruco’s parents have been retired for many years, he hopes to provide for them. The actor said, “It’s important to be able to continue to give to my family. I’ve been married to my wife for five years. We spent 2023 figuring out a lot of things and know each other even better now. I hope we’re one step closer to our beautiful future.”
