Ryan Coogler has a date to return to movie theaters. Warner Bros. has set a March 7, 2025 release for the project, which will star Michael B. Jordan and arrive in Imax.
The film is untitled, but true to Coogler form, it is described as an event film. Coogler is producing via Proximity Media with Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian. One of Coogler’s frequent collaborators, composer Ludwig Göransson, will executive produce with Rebecca Cho and Will Greenfield. Göransson, who earlier this month won the Oscar for best score for his work on Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, also won the Oscar for Coogler’s Black Panther.
Warner Bros. landed the project in February after a bidding war and under a unique deal that will see Coogler regain some rights to the project after a number of years. Coogler is eying a production date this spring in New Orleans.
Coogler rose to become one of the most in-demand directors in Hollywood after reviving the Rocky franchise with Creed in 2015 and helming the historic Black Panther, released in 2018. He most recently directed Black Panther: Wakanda Forever for Marvel Studios. He launched his career with indie darling Fruitvale Station, which starred Jordan, who has had roles in all of his directorial efforts.
