The writer’s strike has been brought to an end, and now it looks like attention has been turned towards the actor’s strike to try and achieve the same result.
In a statement issued just minutes ago by the actor’s union SAG-AFTRA, it seems they and the AMPTP are set to meet for bargaining on Monday, October 2nd.
Additionally, several executives from AMPTP member companies are confirmed to be in attendance. They say: “As negotiations proceed, we will report any substantiative updates directly to you.”
Effectively it sounds as though they will proceed with the same kind of negotiations the WGA and AMPTP held last week. Those five long days of talks led to both sides reaching a tentative agreement by Sunday night and the official end of the writer’s strike earlier today. A ratification vote on that agreement takes place next week.
Whilst the actor’s guild has different demands to the writer’s guild, some are similar. The writer’s guild negotiations yielded new methodology for things like the calculation of streaming residuals – methodology that might be able to be used here as well (albeit with some tweaks).
Should negotiations proceed as well as they did with the writers, it means we potentially could see the end of the actor’s strike in a matter of days or weeks, not months.
