Long-range box-office tracking figures indicate that filmmaker Martin Scorsese’s upcoming period epic “Killers of the Flower Moon,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert DeNiro, is on track for a domestic opening weekend of around $27-37 million according to Box-Office Pro.
That’s a solid debut for the film which is set to open the weekend after Taylor Swift’s concert film “The Eras Tour” makes its debut on October 13th with long-range forecastst expecting that to debut to a minimum of $105 million and anywhere as high as $165 million.
Early reviews for ‘Flower Moon’ from festivals and industry screenings have the film achieving universal acclaim with a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score so far. On the flipside, the film’s 206-minute runtime will limit potential sessions and Swift’s film will take all the IMAX and premium format screens.
If the WGA and SAG-AFTRA labor strikes aren’t resolved within the next few weeks, the film won’t be able to run much of a promotional campaign either – though Scorsese being a well-known name will help a bit with that.
Variety is reporting that Lily Gladstone’s work in the film will be competing for the best actress honor, instead of supporting actress which had been speculated. She will campaign alongside DiCaprio for the film.
“Killers of the Flower Moon” will score a global theatrical rollout from October 20th and will be followed by an Apple TV+ premiere at an unannounced later date.
