Yang Yang’s (楊洋) stiff acting was criticized in this summer’s Fireworks of My Heart . The drama received an abysmal rating of 3.2 on Douban. Fans hope that Yang Yang’s next drama will be a greater success and alleviate some of the criticism. Many are closely watching the filming development of A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality .
Adapted from a popular historical novel, the drama centers around Han Li (Yang Yang), a poor villager who eventually finds his road to immortality. The drama was originally highly anticipated, but recent rumors claimed the script is undergoing major changes. Fans worried if Yang Yang’s screen time may be affected or minimized.
Attempting to shut down speculations, scriptwriter Wang Yuren (王裕仁) denied the rumors and stressed that Yang Yang will be in 90 percent of the drama’s screen time and stated the actor is the best choice for the lead role. Wang Yuren also explained that there will be normal changes necessary in the drama adaptation including logically-developed characters, but this does not necessarily mean more screen time will be added for other characters and take away the focus from Yang Yang.
