It was the buzzing of countless flies in breeding boxes that made the atmosphere at the Sia Arnika show so electric. This young designer is breaking new ground, and not only with her imaginative sets. Stylistically, she remained true to herself, though headed in new directions. Familiar laser-cut decorations and body-hugging silhouettes continued to play a role, just no longer the biggest one.
In a throwback to her childhood in Denmark, Arnika played with the design of polo shirts, reinterpreting them again and again, and reinforcing the seemingly unironic sporty character of the looks. Shirts were given the look of lycra tops and trousers came in technical fabrics, while a coat dress was transformed into an oversized hybrid hoodie by adding a cowl.
The collection also featured many references beyond the football pitch. A printed “The people want more” slogan appeared on several looks, which sums up not just current society, but also the mindset of Sia Arnika herself, as a Dane in Berlin and as a young designer at the start of her career.
