Sony Pictures
Sony Pictures gave the first major studio presentation at the 2024 CineEurope trade show on Monday with a screening of Greg Berlanti’s rom-com “Fly Me to the Moon” and a rundown of its upcoming titles.
They touted projects already wrapped like “Wolfs,” “Kraven the Hunter” and “Venom: The Last Dance” all coming out later this year.
Also mentioned were films in production or greenlit like Danny Boyle’s “28 Years Later,” Taika Waititi’s “Klara and the Sun,” Jason Reitman’s “SNL 1975,” and Sam Mendes’ four Beatles films,
The surprise though were contained within shout outs to two game-to-film adaptations on the way. The live-action “Zelda” movie based on Nintendo’s hit video game franchise was mentioned, but that wasn’t news.
What was a surprise is Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Steven O’Dell giving a specific shoutout to an “Uncharted” sequel, the studio finally and officially confirming they’re moving forward with development of the movie.
It follows on six months from the last update on the film which was from co-star Mark Wahlberg who said a script was being written.
The Tom Holland and Wahlberg-led early 2022 film adapted the acclaimed and popular PlayStation video game series into a movie that received mixed reviews.
However it worked well for the studio – audience polls were very good, and it grossed $400 million worldwide on a reported $120 million budget.
