Spotify for Artists is deleting historical song data on July 1st to standardize historical data access across its analytics platform. Here’s how to download your data before then.
In an effort to standardize historical data access across the entire Spotify for Artists analytics platform — and to cut the costs of data and storage along the way — the company is making changes that include deleting historical data older than two years plus the year-to-date. This change takes effect on July 1st, so artists who want to retain their historical data from 2020 and earlier will want to move quickly to save their data.
Historical artist data is often used to research previous tracks and trends in order to make informed decisions when planning the marketing of a new release. Spotify notes that your historical data from December 31st, 2020, and earlier is now available to download from Spotify for Artists until June 30th, 2023.
Beginning July 1st, Spotify for Artists will provide data on song pages for the past two years plus the year to date, though Spotify notes that artists can still see all-time stream counts for their songs.
While the root cause for the change is likely related to cost-cutting, Spotify says the change will enable it to bring new analytics features to Spotify for Artists. These include:
Custom date range filters on more pagesNew engagement states on your Songs pageNew fan segmentation of your active audienceMore historical data on your Audience engagement pageA new roster management view
Spotify says it will also be removing a few analytics features with “low usage,” including ‘Similar artists’ and ‘Compare to other artists’ analytics. Remember, your historical data from December 31st, 2020, and earlier will be available to download from Spotify for Artists only until June 30th, 2023.
To download a CSV file containing your data, look for a downward arrow icon on song pages. This feature only works on the web and not from the Spotify for Artists mobile app.
