Announced in 2021,” “Star Wars: Eclipse” will see “Heavy Rain” and “Detroit: Become Human” game creators Quantic Dream tackle an original “Star Wars” game.
The title was one of the first announced in the wake of the “Star Wars” license exiting a decade of EA exclusivity and remains one of the most interesting-looking titles on the way as it reportedly takes place in the High Republic era.
The initial announcement trailer, entirely pre-rendered CG animation, was also mysterious in its nature and posed a lot of questions. Subsequently, it was revealed the game was in very early development and so is many years away.
IGN (via ComicBook.com) recently spoke with Quantic Dream’s Vice President of Marketing Lisa Pendse who confirmed the game is still very much in development and is “currently simmering”.
She also explains the game will retain the trademarks Quantic Dream is known for, specifically branching narratives and multiple playable characters – meaning any character can die:
“One of the big focuses we’ve had when we announced Star Wars Eclipse was to make sure it was clear that this is actually an action-adventure game that has all of the elements that you would come to expect and want from a Quantic Dream title, which is intricately branching narratives, multiple playable characters.
There’s no game over. Anyone can die, anything can happen and the story sort of continues so that those signatures are still there. But what we’ve been doing is even more ramping up our expertise in the gameplay arena.”
In other “Star Wars” game news, actor Cameron Monaghan appeared at Ocala Comic Con and confirmed a third title in the “Star Wars: Jedi” game series is in the works following “Star Wars: Jedi – Survivor” earlier this year:
“We’re working on the third, we’re in the process of doing it right now. That’s been a big undertaking, and there’s been some conversations so far. Hopefully, when all things are said and done, we’ll be able to go in and make something really cool for you guys again.”
“Star Wars: Jedi – Survivor” launch sales beat its predecessor “Star Wars: Jedi – Fallen Order” by 30% with the title the most downloaded game on the US and European PlayStation Store in April and May this year.
