Stewart Waiting On “Picard” Movie Script

Stewart Waiting On “Picard” Movie Script

Paramount+

83-year-old “X-Men” and “Star Trek: The Next Generation” star Patrick Stewart has revealed that a movie follow-up to “Star Trek: Picard” is in the works.

Popping up on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Stewart says he’s receiving a script sometime this week which was written with him in mind to once more reprise his role:

“I heard, only last night, about a script that is being written specifically with the actor, Patrick, to play in it [as Picard]. I’ve been told to expect it within a week or so, and I’m so excited, because it sounds like the kind of project where the experimentation that I want to do will be essential for this kind of material.”

What’s not clear is who is writing this script or will be involved in the film be it director, co-stars, etc. Throughout much of the back half of 2023 whilst promoting his recent memoir, he indicated he wasn’t ready to say goodbye to his role just yet and suggested he had a movie left in him saying he was “gently pushing Paramount to let us do one single ‘Picard’ movie”.

Said movie wouldn’t be another ‘Next Generation’ movie/reunion like last year’s acclaimed third and final season of “Star Trek: Picard,” but an “expansion and deepening” of the universe seen in “Picard”.

It sounds like someone is giving it a shot. Paramount is already working on a Michelle Yeoh-led “Section 31” film which will begin shooting at the end of the month with plans for a Paramount+ premiere. Could this follow in its wake?

Since “Picard” wrapped fans have also been championing a “Star Trek: Legacy” series focusing on the younger Enterprise-G crew – but so far Paramount or the producers haven’t indicated any progress on that front.
