Suge Knight Claims Deion Sanders Was Once Signed To Death Row

“I spent over half a million dollars of my own money.”

Suge Knight continues to reveal stories from behind bars, with his latest being about signing a NFL legend to Death Row Records in the ’90s.

In a recent interview with Nick Cannon’s The Daily Cannon, the former label boss called in from prison to talk about his new podcast, Collect Call With Suge Knight.

Amid the conversation, Suge revealed that he once had Deion Sanders on his roster of artists.

“Deion Sanders — when Prime wanted to be a rapper, he said, ‘I want to be a rapper,’” Suge recalled. “I spent over half a million dollars of my own money. I put guys in the studio, I paid Dallas Austin, I did all these songs — did everything.

He went on, “Then one day he came to me and said, ‘Well, y’know, Prime deal with Nike and Death Row is a Black-owned company, and we don’t really want to deal with a Black-owned company. Even though you paid for everything and we signed to you, put us on the Interscope brand.’”

The 58-year-old explained that Sanders’ then took a deal with Jimmy Iovine, to which he claims to have been “deeply involved” in Sanders’ success. Suge also claims that he was never paid for the work he put into the retired football star’s artistic career.

Listen below.

Upon the debut of Suge’s first podcast episode, he spoke on the state of women rappers today, with him naming Cardi B, SZA, and Doja Cat for being more than just their “looks.”

“I think the industry is controlled by the baddest bi**es in the world,” he declared. “The females got that sh*t on lock and when you look at the women, they came such a long way and they’re really, really strong. They’re not in the shadows of a man; they’re leading the way. I think Cardi B is incredible. That’s probably one of the biggest stars in the industry and a great business woman that leads the way.”

He went on, “Then when you look at it, sh*t Doja Cat, she’s such a big-a** star, there’s nothing she can’t do and be successful with it. And when you talking about the R&B tip, I don’t know any of these people personally but at the same time – Summer Walker, Lizzo, and SZA – these women going out there and they making it happen.”

Suge then noted that the women rappers of today look like “runway models,” and are dating openly, versus women artists of the past who were only viewed as “the homegirls.”

“We had women in the business that sounded cool… sounded good, rapped good… but they was like the homegirls. Now the women they sound good, they look even better and they ain’t like the homegirls,” he continued. “Used to be a time where you had people who had couples in the industry, they would keep that on the low. They didn’t want nobody to know if they were f**king with a rapper or a R&B singer. Everything was on the hush hush.”

“These new bi**hes so muthaf**kin’ pretty, the rappers and the singers and the people in the industry can’t wait to get on social media and say, ‘Look who I got! Look who I’m dating!’” he said. “That’s how bad these bi**hes are and they don’t just sound good, they look good. And I ain’t on no weirdo sh*t.”

Suge made it clear that he’s “content” with his age as he isn’t interested in “tryna holla” at them.

“I just give them they muthaf**kin’ [flowers]. They the ones that run the industry.”
