SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Disney Illusion Island’, ‘Demonic Supremacy’, Plus Today’s Other Releases and Sales
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for July 28th, 2023. In today’s article, we check out the remaining releases for the week. There’s a fair number of them, though the bins are pretty full today. After we check those out, we look at the usual lists of new sales and outgoing discounts. Not the most exciting of days, but at least that new Mickey platformer is finally out. Let’s get to business!

New Releases

Disney Illusion Island ($39.99)

Always be careful of the games whose names you invoke, because it sometimes invites comparisons you’re ill-equipped to live up to. This is a rather pretty 2D Metroidvania-style platformer starring Mickey and his friends that can be played by up to four people in local multiplayer. The platforming bits play out a bit like the last couple of Rayman games, but not as good. That Illusion in the title might make you think it has something to do with the SEGA classics, but no, it’s not quite as good as those either. And as Metroidvania-style games go, this is solidly average. That said, we’re not so rich in multiplayer 2D exploratory platformers as to turn up our noses at this one.

Demonic Supremacy ($6.99)

Sure, let’s do a cheap boomer shooter-style thing. The story here is that some kind of tower full of nasty demons has appeared, and you’ve decided to ascend that tower and slaughter everything you meet. If you can get to the top you’ll be given some kind of reward. I don’t know, it’s not really important. What is important is that this is a surprisingly solid first-person shooter for a very reasonable price. If you enjoy a bit of the old rip and tear, you’ll be right at home here.

Working Hard Collection ($4.99)

Working hard, or hardly working? Ha! That particular jape was all the rage back in my younger years. My co-worker once slid into the video rental shop where we worked, flicked his curtained hair, and delivered that line. We were all in stitches! But that isn’t the only way to have fun. You could also play this pair of puzzlers where you have to control robots to prevent workers from dying, and then stop said robots from destroying the environment. There are fifty levels in each game, and they’re fairly different from each other. For a fiver, puzzle fans should be satisfied.

The Master’s Pupil ($14.99)

A rather lovely puzzle platformer that is set in the eye of Monet. You have to help him create his master works by solving various puzzles. All the backgrounds look like they’re hand painted, and the whole thing is just very chill and nice to hang out in. We don’t get a ton of this kind of thing anymore, so I’m sure some will be very happy to have this around.

Cricket Captain 2023 ($24.99)

You know the gaming market is healthy these days when there isn’t just room for a cricket game on the North American eShop, but also a cricket management simulation game. I’m not going to pretend I know the first thing about any of this, but it certainly sports a robust list of features and content. I’m also quite impressed at the massive amount of legal disclaimers in the description. This may have been a completely unhelpful summary. Sorry.

The Entropy Centre ($24.99)

You know that thing you do in Tears of the Kingdom (the first game to ever do something like this mind you) where you rewind time on an item or background element? Imagine a Portal-style game but instead of portal puzzles they are all time-rewinding puzzles, and that’s this game. And indeed, if you enjoy games like Portal or Qube, you’ll likely have a decent time with this one. Reviews on other platforms weren’t wildly positive, but good enough.

Hyper Torque Racing ($6.99)

Look, I was going to shuffle this one down to the bins because it seems like a very plain racing game, but I noticed it is published by Granzella, the folks behind R-Type Final 2 and Disaster Report 4. That is so odd that I couldn’t help but give a little text to point it out. It features a single-player story mode, local multiplayer for two players, and a ranking mode so you can compete with others’ times online. I suppose for seven bucks it’s fine.

Nova Strike ($9.99)

Another one of these roguelite takes on the shoot-em-up, this time vertical. Well, you know how these go. Lots of spongy enemies that make you want to upgrade, seemingly insurmountable foes until you get some permanent unlocks, and a progression system that should push you to victory eventually. If you’re into this kind of thing, a tenner is probably not too egregious a price to pay.

The Bin Bunch

Raccoon Adventure: Animal City Simulator 3D Farm Super Deluxe Games ($13.99)

Counter Delta 2: Eastern Crisis ($14.99)

Action Supercross ($2.99)

The Scientists’ Secret – Hidden Object Game ($3.99)

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Sure, that’s an okay list. Some good Dangen-published stuff there. The Witcher 3, in case you haven’t grabbed that yet. Untitled Goose Game, another solid pick. Have a gander through the list and see what jumps out at you. The outbox for the weekend is fairly small and doesn’t have a whole lot to get fussed about in it. Well, do your thing.

That’s all for today and this week, friends. The next time I write this article, I’ll be a year older. This time thing is tricky. Moves a little too fast for my liking. I’ll be enjoying some pizza and cake, and maybe even a present or two. I hope you all have a great weekend, and as always, thanks for reading!
