SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Ghost Trick’, ‘Everybody 1-2-Switch!’, and Today’s Other Releases and Sales
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for June 30th, 2023. In today’s article, we’ve got quite a few new releases to chase yesterday’s massive pack. Nintendo’s got its latest in the form of Everybody 1-2-Switch!, Capcom brings back a classic with Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, and Spike Chunsoft is solving a mystery of its own in Master Detective Archives: Rain Code. After the new release summaries, it’s time for the list of new and expiring sales. Not exactly steamy, but it’ll have to do. Let’s get to it!

New Releases

Everybody 1-2-Switch! ($29.99)

Okay, I know this might seem like a sequel no one really asked for, but the odd thing is that 1-2-Switch! kind of quietly sold a lot. Like, more than three million. So there are probably a lot of people out there who are looking for more 1-2-Switch!, but this time with Silly Horsehead Mask. And that is just what this aims to deliver. I will probably be reviewing this, but we’ll see how things go. I need to clear some space in my room first.

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective ($29.99)

The Nintendo DS had a lot of really great games that didn’t sell as well as they probably deserved to, and Ghost Trick is one of them. A clever puzzle adventure game from the creator of Ace Attorney, Ghost Trick sees you playing as Sissel, a recently-deceased spirit who is looking to solve the mystery of his murder. Time is running out, but you’re able to use your spiritual power to manipulate objects to try to achieve your goals. Seriously, this game is absolutely amazing. Play it. I will have a review soon, but I will tell you right now: play this if you haven’t before.

Master Detective Archives: Rain Code ($59.99)

A young detective-in-training and the grim reaper haunting him make for an unusual pair, but here we are. This one comes from some of the people behind Danganronpa, and that’s generally the tone you should expect from it. Investigate unsolved mysteries as you try to recover your memories, gathering clues that you can use to complete the Mystery Labyrinth. From what I’ve heard, this one suffers from some technical issues on the Switch. I’ll be reviewing it, so I’ll let you know my experience with it when I do.

Ray’z Arcade Chronology ($49.99)

RayStorm X RayCrisis HD Collection ($39.99)

Alright, it’s another one of these situations. To ININ’s credit, this time both the full collection and the cut-down collection are releasing on the same day. So the choice is now yours, and while I still question the value of the cut-down set, at least you don’t have to factor anticipation into it. Both collections have RayStorm and RayCrisis in both their original arcade and spiffy new HD versions, while the Arcade Chronology offers up the additional bonus of RayForce. That would be the best game of the three, in my opinion. Easily worth the extra ten bucks. But there is one more wrinkle, and that is the Layer Section/Galactic Attack S-Tribute release from a while back. You see, RayForce is Layer Section and Galactic Attack. Just different names. That set was the Saturn version of the game, while this one is the arcade original. Most players won’t get much value out of the double-dip, so maybe the cut-down set is better for you after all? Taito, you give me headaches. I’ll be reviewing this one soon as well.

The Medium – Cloud Version ($49.99)

Bloober Team’s 2021 horror game is a bit much for the Switch, and you know what that means: time for another game that streams from the cloud! The game itself was received reasonably well on other platforms, and I suspect if you enjoy Bloober Team’s other games you will probably like this one too. But the usual Cloud Version warnings apply. How smooth the game plays is highly dependent on your internet situation, and if the company ever pulls the plug on the server, your game is gone. Best to enjoy this on any other platform, but if your internet is good and you don’t have any other choices? Well, this is an option.

ACL Pro Cornhole ($29.99)

FarSight sure has gone in an interesting direction since abandoning pinball. Here is a fully licensed and seemingly high-effort take on professional cornhole, and if you’re snickering right now you should probably know that this is a regional name for that game where you toss beanbags into holes in a wooden board. Don’t worry, I snickered the first time I heard it too. My brain has this sport all wrapped up with a failed console that never was, but I suppose if this is your sport then here is your game. The description doesn’t say anything about if it uses motion controls, but if it doesn’t that is a serious missed opportunity.

A Tale For Anna ($10.99)

This looks to be a point-and-click style adventure game, but the description talks about there being five levels, so don’t run too far with that. There are definitely puzzles to be solved and items to be collected, and if nothing else it looks family-friendly. I haven’t played it yet myself, so I can’t really say much more than that.

Vision Soft Reset ($9.99)

A Metroidvania-style game where your character can manipulate time. I say it a lot, but we have a lot of great games in this genre on the Switch now. A game has to do something really cool to stand out, and I’ll grant that time control is pretty nifty. It’s been out for a while on Steam and I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. Combine that with a nice price and this might be one for genre fans to bite on.

The Lost and the Wicked ($9.99)

This game pitches itself as a “brutal twin-stick psycho thriller”, and after spending a little time with it, that is definitely what this is. Unfortunately, a little time is all I can spend with it. It has a very distinct art style but the way everything moves and shakes is doing a number on my old man eyes. That said, reviews on other platforms are favorable so if you’re in the mood for something trippy and heavier than you might think, this might be for you.

Crime O’Clock ($19.99)

This is one of those Where’s Wally style things where you’re trying to spot hard-to-spot things in big detailed pictures, but this one adds a time element to the mix. So you have to find the clues and the things leading up to crimes, not just where they happen but when they happen. An interesting twist, I’ll give them that. Time control is pretty nifty, as a great writer once wrote. I’ll be reviewing this one too, as I have decided to give up sleep forever. Seems like a solid plan.

Inner Ashes ($14.99)

A first-person narrative adventure that seeks to explore what it’s like to have Alzheimer’s through the eyes of someone suffering from it. The game is actually built on techniques that are used to help Alzheimer’s patients, which is quite interesting. Probably not everyone’s idea of a fun weekend, but if you’re looking for a slightly different thing to experience today then this might be your ticket.

ChronoBreach Ultra ($4.99)

Here’s an action-platformer to slot into our five-dollar Switch platformer position for today, and you’re not going to believe this but it involves time control. I don’t know how this happened, but maybe the person scheduling eShop releases at Nintendo decided to exercise a bit of their own time control. Pretty nifty. Time control, that is. This game is just okay. But okay is okay when it’s just five dollars, isn’t it?

The Bin Bunch

There are some games that are just so low-quality that even I don’t feel like writing about them. Welcome to… the Bin Bunch.

Superfidos ($17.99)

i.Game Hong Kong Mahjong ($7.70)

I’ll Kill Her ($3.99)

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Quite a big list today, and I’m unfortunately running a bit short on time so I’ll have to leave most of the dirty work to you. Haiku, the Robot and The Kids We Were, if you need a start. The weekend outbox isn’t very big, so you can take your time combing through those new sales if you like.
