A24
A year on from Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis,” the King of Rock and Roll is getting another dissection from a famed filmmaker – this time through the eyes of his wife.
A24 has premiered the teaser trailer for “Priscilla,” the latest directorial effort of “Lost in Translation” and “Marie Antoinette” filmmaker Sofia Coppola. Australian actor and “Euphoria” breakout Jacob Elordi plays Elvis Presley in the film alongside “Mare of Easttown” actress Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla.
In the film, teenage Priscilla Beaulieu meets Elvis Presley at a party. The man is already a meteoric rock-and-roll superstar and becomes someone entirely unexpected in private moments: a thrilling crush, an ally in loneliness, a vulnerable best friend.
Through Priscilla’s eyes, the story explores the unseen side of a great American myth in Elvis and Priscilla’s long courtship and turbulent marriage, from a German army base to his dream-world estate at Graceland.
The story is based on the real Priscilla’s tell-all memoir “Elvis and Me” which didn’t shy away from showing her husband at some of his darkest hours, including addiction and infidelity.
Coppola reunites with some of her key creative collaborators like lenser Philippe Le Sourd and production designer Tamara Deverell among others on the film, which also stars Dagmara Dominczyk and Luke Humphrey.
Shot late last year, the film is on track for an October release in cinemas.
