On December 7, The Finals was suddenly released globally by Embark Studios. Since then, this free-to-play, fast-paced shooter has taken the gaming world by storm, smashing expectations the world over. It’s a gorgeous, highly energetic shooter with immense destruction mechanics and plenty of potential wrapped up in a package that costs absolutely nothing. It was recently revealed by the game’s developer that in just two weeks, The Finals secured an incredible 10 million players.
It’s a staggering milestone for this game, especially as up until now, Embark Studios hasn’t released anything. This is the studio’s first game, and it’s a testament to the team’s ability to construct something truly meaningful. The Finals is well-reviewed and has been received extremely well online, and with most of the development being driven by feedback from the community, there is nothing but good things to come from this frenetic shooter.
The Finals Could Rival Call of Duty
With 10 million players getting on board in just two weeks, The Finals has already proved it can rival the likes of Call of Duty, Battlefield, and even games like Fortnite. It has such a delectable mix of features and mechanics that it’s hard to not be at least intrigued by the game. With innovative character models, unique pacing, and a theme that makes you feel as though you’re competing in a spectator sport, The Finals has had no issue drawing in millions of players – and that number will likely continue to grow.
I’ve already spoken to the esports potential for The Finals. It has been built with competitive gaming in mind, boasting elements that make you feel as though you’re in an arena in front of tens of thousands of viewers. It’s a team-based game that requires strategy and collaboration, and although some of the game modes can be a little confusing for newcomers, it’s still a relatively accessible game. It’ll be easy to see it foster an exhilarating, energetic esports scene.
Already Listening
Embark Studios is already neck-deep in the feedback coming from its community. Following the deployment of a festive-themed update, Embark Studios listened to its players and released a patch containing plenty of quality-of-life updates and fixes. There’s a lot of attention to detail at the moment, and any bug that surfaces is being targeted and eliminated by the team with impressive efficiency.
It’s hard to see The Finals slacking anytime soon. The base nature of the game provides untold potential for expansions, new maps, characters, abilities, and modes. It’s not at all restricted, and as it’s not entirely grounded in reality, Embark Studios can really play around with fantastic weapons and staggering abilities.
This one is well worth watching, and even more worth playing.
