The Magical Girl and The Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies Trailer Tells Debut Date

A new trailer has dropped for the anime The Magical Girl and The Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies (a.ka. Katsute Maho Shojo to Aku wa Tekitai Shiteita in Japanese) that lets us know the series will debut on July 9. In addition, more names in the cast have been disclosed.
We now know that Kenichi Suzumura plays Fomalhaut, Ayako Kawasumi plays Bellatrix, Hiro Shimono plays Alcyone, Nao Toyama plays Spica, Takumi Yamazaki plays Sadalsudh, and Takaya Hashi plays Betelgeuse.
Earlier, it had been revealed that Mai Nakahara plays Mira, Yuki Ono plays Byakuya Mimori, Shinichiro Miki plays the Cat Familiar, Mariya Ise plays Hibana Kagari, and Hikaru Midorikawa plays the Bird Familiar.
The anime is being made at BONES, with Akiyo Ohashi of The Stranger by the Shore helming the project as director. The person handling script and series composition is Yuniko Ayana, who is known for working on BanG Dream! Credit for character design goes to Haruko Iizuka of Horimiya. The music is being composed by MAYUKO, whose credits include Cells at Work!
The original manga was created by Cocoa Fujiwara in 2013, only for Fujiawara to pass away two years later. Square Enix released the third volume after Fujiwara’s passing, after talking with her family first.
So far the manga hasn’t been published in America, though Yen Press has licensed it, and its English release will begin in August, a month after the anime debuts. Yen Press gave this description for the plot:
She’s a magical girl, sworn to fight for peace, love, and justice. He’s a lieutenant, born into a military family that serves an evil empire. And yet, it was love at first sight…From Inu x Boku S.S. creator Cocoa Fujiwara comes a four-panel comic about hostile enemies who won’t kill (and love) each other!
