Since it was released in 2017, Fortnite has grown and evolved to adopt a player base of over 4 million. Players adore the game because it offers them something completely new with every season, and has done for over half a decade.
Epic Games may not have expected Fortnite’s battle royale mode to take off as it did, but players fell in love with it and it’s gone on to create an industry of its own. Every new season is an event, as is the end of each one. It’s hard to see Fortnite as a game that’s getting on to be six years old, and even wilder when every season is broken down by start and end date. That’s exactly what we’ve done in this article. To help everyone see just how far the game has come and how far it could still go.

All Season Start & End Dates in Fortnite
The table below outlines the start and end dates for every season in Fortnite’s history. We’ve been updating this table for years and all the data is up to date, even with the end of the current Fortnite OG season on December 2, 2023.
There are two seasons of note for those intrigued by Fortnite’s history. The inaugural Season 1 held the title for the shortest season at 50 days until Fortnite OG, which will have had a length of roughly one month by the time it ends.
The second season to point out is Chapter 2 Season 1, which introduced motorboats, upgrade benches, and fishing, all of which were standard fare in Chapter 4. This season went on for what seemed like forever at 128 days, but no other season has topped it since.

At the time of writing, Fortnite OG is set to end with The Big Bang Event on December 2, 2023. Eminem will be in concert and the map will explode in a similar way to how it did in Season X. What comes next is anyone’s guess, but the general feel from fans is that it will be the start of Chapter 5. This makes sense given the move from Chapter 1 to Chapter 2, and how similar the one from Fortnite OG, which relived the Chapter 1 map, could be moving into Chapter 5.
The pattern with every season in Chapter 1 was for Epic Games to add something new to the map. It evolved for well over a year, and only then did Chapter 2 begin with new bold features that completely altered the game. Each one even had its own Battle Pass with skins to collect, and there have been quite a few at this point.
