Famed costume designer Colleen Atwood has confirmed that Michael Keaton’s striped suit from the first “Beetlejuice” is set to make a comeback in the upcoming sequel.
The character boasts multiple looks throughout the film, but the most well-known is white-and-black striped suit he wears that leads into the finale, during which he switches into a burgundy tuxedo.
Keaton, Tim Burton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara reunite for the sequel in their roles with filming essentially a day away from completion prior to the actor’s strike.
Atwood, speaking with ComicBook.com, says the suit was a priority to get back for the sequel. However, it seems Keaton disagreed with her on which look was more iconic:
“Well Beetlejuice has to have a striped suit. It’s like doing Alice in Wonderland needs a blue dress. How long they wear it is another thing. But Beetlejuice, that is the quintessential Beetlejuice. Strangely, it was Michael, he thinks the burgundy tux is the quintessential Beetlejuice, not the striped suit. But the world happens to disagree with him, so it’s a funny thing.”
Jenna Ortega, Willem Defoe, Justin Theroux, and Monica Bellucci also star in the new film which is expected to be released September next year.
