When Jennifer Lawrence emerged this past summer for her No Hard Feelings press tour, there was immediate consensus that she had never looked better. This year, the Oscar winner adopted a uniform of sorts that perfectly suited her trademark laidback attitude. Matching her personality to her style, with the help of her stylist Jamie Mizrahi, Lawrence radiated effortlessness.
Lawrence’s unfussy, but distinctly luxe new style epitomizes high-low dressing, striking the perfect balance of opposites: oversized, yet tailored just-so; basic, but expensive; designer bag plus affordable sneakers; a dramatic ballgown worn with flip-flops. What helped keep Lawrence’s personal style so exciting was her modern elaboration of classic pieces, accomplished via her accessories.
A Jennifer Lawrence outfit is, in theory, easy to replicate: wide-legged pants, a white t-shirt in warmer weather, a sweater in the cold, and a well-tailored trench coat. One way she elevated her look was by carrying a status purse. On one occasion, the actor was spotted toting a ruddy brown Margaux bag from The Row, an heirloom-quality purse which she paired with a white tee, flowing trousers, and a trench coat. She was also quite fond of the Loewe Puzzle tote, which she carried with her almost everywhere, including jaunts to the gym.
Shoes are another of Lawrence’s standout accessories. She wasn’t immune to the allure of year’s trendiest pieces, road-testing a pair of the buzzy Alaïa mesh flats, upscale summer camp sandals, and just about every color of Adidas under the sun. Understatement is the name of her game, and that goes likewise for jewelry, which she kept to a minimum. But a few of her go-to pieces caught our eye—in particular, her staple diamond tennis necklace.
Lawrence also took a new approach to dressing for movie premieres, leaning into unexpected looks. A longtime friend of Dior, she took to the Cannes carpet in a sweeping red dress from the label, complete with a full skirt and matching wrap. But underneath, she revealed a pair of black thong sandals, a defiance of the festival’s heels policy. Elsewhere on her press tour, she juxtaposed an airy, sheer dress with a severe, strong-shouldered blazer.
